    What is Cataract surgery?

Cataract surgery is a quick, outpatient surgical procedure that is performed under local anaesthetic. For those suffering with cataracts and finding that their vision is no longer crystal clear, replacement lens surgery is essential.

Surgery quickly restores the joy of good vision with clear colours, the ability to read comfortably and to see small objects and admire fine detail easily.

Am I suitable for Cataract surgery?

Cataracts are blurry, misty patches that begin to form on the small round lenses in eyes. These cause blurry, misty vision and dulling of colours and eventually, the cataracts cause blindness.

Everyone who has cataracts forming is recommended to have replacement lens surgery as soon as possible. There is no need to wait until the cataracts have reached a certain stage – far better to have them removed sooner and enjoy great vision once again.

    How Cataract surgery works?

The replacement lens surgery we offer is gentle, safe, and fast. The surgical procedure is the same whether you have cataracts or have eyesight that is not as sharp and clear as it used to be.

The surgery is very quick and involves your natural lenses being removed and replaced with new artificial lenses. The results are dramatic as your vision will be crystal clear and you will be surprised and delighted with the clarity of colours.  After surgery you will no longer be constantly relying on glasses.

Cataract surgery on NHS, private vs abroad

Cataract surgery is available on the NHS in the UK, but the recommended waiting time of 18 weeks, is currently much longer following the Coronavirus pandemic.

There are many different private clinics across the UK that offer cataract surgery – but definitely this comes at a price.

The Czech Republic – and especially its capital, Prague – is known worldwide for its top level optical surgery. In our eye clinic 60,000 patients were treated in the last 20 years. We offer the latest technology – at up to 60% the UK costs.

    What lenses do you use?

Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) to treat cataract is a very safe surgical procedure, and we use only the best artificial lenses that are produced by the German company Zeiss and the American company, Lenstec.

When you arrive at our eye clinic, you will have an appointment with one of our specialists to discuss your forthcoming surgery.  Your eyes will be examined and our specialist will discuss with you the most suitable type of artificial lenses for you –  monofocal, trifocal or toric trifocal lenses.

    What technology do you use?

At out eye clinic we use the latest technology for cataract and intraocular refraction surgery. We use ZEPTO™ Technology. This is assisted robotic precision cataract and refractive surgery and our surgeons use this because it is extremely safe and also maximises the results for each of our patients.

    Aftercare and Recovery

Coming to Prague for lens replacement surgery is practical as surgery and after care is completed within one week. Prague is just a 90-minute flight from the UK, so it is possible to combine the surgical procedure with leisure time in our beautiful city.

After the procedure has been completed, you will be given advice and any necessary medication. You will be requested to attend our clinic for a follow up before you leave for home. If you have any queries at any time, we are just a telephone call away.
